Empowering Style. The Celebrity Wishmaker Simonetta Lein Meets Mindful Psychiatrist Dr Denise McDermott M.D.

Get out of your comfort zone and you could find the real you. Simonetta Lein
What about if fashion could be part of a holistic approach, one of those pieces that complete the puzzle? I love interviewing powerful women and studying their approach to life and their style. There are people that inspire you so much that you wish you could be a bit like them. One of these people is Dr. Denise McDermott. I met Denise because of her podcast show, she interviewed me and I got to know her better and her advocacy for mental health and passion for helping children. I was at first fascinated by her voice, then by her gratitudinal style of being always so appreciative of others. I wanted to find out more and talk about how her important work can inspire us in our everyday lives, in style.
Who are you and what is the name of your business?
Simonetta, I am smiling with gratitude as I start this interview!
I am Dr. Denise McDermott M.D., “Dr. Denise” an adult and child board certified psychiatrist. I have had the privilege of working with thousands of children, teens and adults in my Southern California private practice since 2001. I take a holistic, multidimensional approach to mental health that embraces my western medicine training coupled with a spirit/mind/body understanding of health and wellbeing.
I am a very proud mom of a very active and charismatic son who is definitely my biggest teacher in this lifetime! He is the true inspiration of the launch of the “Dr. Denise” brand!
What is your brand about?
The “Dr. Denise” brand is about inspiring others to reach their fullest potential from a multidimensional perspective. The intention is to help all of “US” as a collective to thrive and cope in empowered ways.
I launched my “Dr. Denise” site (drdenisemd.com) to provide mental health tips, tools and wisdom from my office into your home! You can listen to my podcast, “The Doctor Denise Show” with a variety of guests including doctors, scientists, and pioneers that are part of the paradigm progression in discussing new ways of thinking and understanding mental health. It was an honor to have you on the show Simonetta! Your “pay it forward spirit” is a great example of inspiring others to be charitable. Helping others is “good for us” too!
You can check out “Mental Health and How To Thrive,” my e-book that provides mental health tips and tools as well as “Emergency Well-Being,” an educational video series that discusses the important bridge between psychiatry and meditation!

What is your mission?
Can you imagine a world in which OUR children were taught to embrace their mental, physical and spiritual health to achieve happiness, inner peace, love and compassion for self and others? I can.
Being healthy and well requires a level of physical and emotional awareness for ALL of us. This is why I prescribe mindfulness as part of every mental health thrive plan for children, teens and adults.
I have set the intention to use my 20 years of experience as a medical doctor and healer to co-create and collaborate with scientists, doctors, and other wellness thought leaders for the mental health of OUR planet.
**I was raised by two pioneers, a medical doctor and a psycotherapist. Both understood very early the power of the holistic concept, the fact that we are not a body separated from the mind or even the soul. Everything is interconnected and we have to strive to find that balance and communication between all our parts. Children are very open to getting in touch with their spirit and there are many studies that show that when kids meditate together they calm down immediately, and cases of bullying or hyperactivity drop. The same thing with adults: scientists put a big number of people in a city all meditating together, and they showed how that day crime fell dramatically in that city. The power of energy and thoughts is incredible, and we have to start to share this concept more often and to teach it to our kids. In this prospective, fashion and personal style are a reflection of your inner self, a way of taking care of your body while you reveal your taste, what you like or you do not like, and in this sense fashion can be part of that mindfulness spirit that Dr. Denise talks about.
Are you a Millennial?
I am not a millennial. I am what Wikipedia (ha!) calls the “MTV generation”… Generation X
What do you think about Millennials?
Simonetta~If as a collective they have your work ethic, heart energy and desire to promote social change I would say I am impressed!
When I meet people it is the essence of their soul matters. People from all generations can contribute with a loving heart to help one another.
If you are here it means that you love fashion. Why?
In medical school I can honestly say I would dress my best on test days and it created my “A game” attitude and performance that has carried through to today. It is amazing how empowered you can feel when your outer appearance reflects your mindset!
**If you project yourself out there in the way you want people to see you, you are delivering a strong message while projecting a part of the outcome of your future.
Here is my “Empowering Style” collection for Dr. Denise, feminine and elegant. A style that can inspire.

**Dr Denise at a podcast interview with other collegues. This blue variation is very trendy for the upcoming Spring/Summer season, a nice choice for a mid day meeting.

**I love this combo picture that shows her elegant style and her personal inspiring touch. There are many details about Denise’s style and private life in this picture, a sneak pick of empowerment.

**This is the true spirit and inspiration we all need, an empowered woman that heals so many. Dr. Denise gets recharged by nature, every night after work she walks on the beach or looks at the sunset and she does it in style.
What cannot miss from your wardrobe?
I love wearing my choker with a stone that reflects my mood or attitude with the outfit I have put together that day. I collect simple and elegant pieces when I travel and love to remember the great memories that were created!
**Stones are chic, elegant and therapeutic and I love this reminder of Dr Denise. Let’s add some stone jewelery in our outfit to protect and recharge ourselves and be classy.
Your favorite pair of shoes and why?
I live and work by the beach…. I love my Havaianas in many different colors and styles as my favorite casual shoe look. In medical school I was obsessed with the latest sleek and sexy Via Spiga look and will still choose this shoe for a “date night.”
What is your style, and what you cannot stand in people, inside and out?
My style is elegant, feminine and versatile from business to casual attire.
Self confidence is an attractive quality as opposed to an individual who takes an elitist or entitled approach to interacting with others.
What is your fashion mantra?
Dress for a thrive mindset!
Your inner beauty and mindset can be expressed with your fashion style.
What is that magic word that speaks about you?
KINDNESS
What is a wish that you would commit to grant this year to someone paying it forward?
I would love to support a date night for parents with “really active children,” or children with mental health challenges. It is so important that we as parents have alone time without our kids to really focus on our marriage.
**Thank you so much dear Denise for being such a role model and a woman that dedicates her life to others. Keep inspiring us and bringing to the forefronte the concept of mindfulness: a path that can enrich us inside and out.
As always, make your wishes come true.
From Philadelphia, The Celebrity Wishmaker Simonetta Lein
