First “Wishwall” Established in Philadelphia

Over the weekend of the 25th and 26th of September, in celebration of Pope Francis’ Apostolic journey to the Philadelphia, The Wishwall Foundation, in association with the City of Philadelphia, presented a community event within the historic 9th St. Italian Market. Hosted by Simonetta Lein, Italian influencer, “Wishmaker” and founder of The Wishwall Foundation, as well as 1st District Councilman Mark F. Squilla, hundreds of visitors participated at the event by crafting their personal “Wish” and posting it onto the Wishwall structure, which created a freestanding art instillation of prayers and intentions. The posted wishes were highly diverse, ranging from bringing aid to homeless veterans to finding a cure for cancer and other terminal diseases, to the abolishment of forced marriage to a three year old boy wishing for “Captain America to protect everyone”. The concept behind the “Wishwall” was threefold: to provide an outlet for expression, to create the possibility of being heard and potentially helped, and to build a physical manifestation of dreams by way of art.
