Empowering Style. The Celebrity Wishmaker Simonetta Lein Meets Fashion Designer Of Real Patricia McLaurin

Tech goes with fashion like empowerment goes with women. To me, when women can feel comfortable and sexy, they also feel empowered. I love to look for those special women that in my opinion are game changers. Thanks to their constant work we can bring technology to our daily lives, isn’t it powerful? I recently fell in love with a woman, she is simple, yet funny, hard working and strives for the best. I want you all to know her, she is Patricia McLaurin, designer of Real : both an artist and a tech pioneer.
Who are you and what is the name of your business?
My name is Patricia McLaurin, the name of our company is Real and I am the designer and tech researcher.
What is your brand about?
Real is a lifestyle. Our intimate apparel collections embrace every activity, every wardrobe need, and every mood of today’s women.
I believe that one of the most important aspects when it comes to designing is fabric choice. You need lingerie but you don’t want them to be constantly reminded that you are wearing undergarments. That’s what led me to do my research on the yummiest fabrics. Another part of this equation is construction. The less conventional seaming, such as cut and sew, the more invisible the garment is under clothing and the more comfortable it feels. All our technologies are as seamless as possible.
We have categorized our technologies as follows: Fusion, Radius, and Atom.
Fusion – we use the finest adhesive available to bond the seams together.
Radius – New to the market. This takes seamless product to the next level, rather than the traditional microfiber we are giving the consumer seamless lace. Now a woman can “Show Her Seamless”- sexy and comfortable.
Atom – Traditional seamless product at its finest: Trendy, comfortable athleisure wear.
** I am really passionate about technology, and when it comes to fashion it means that it can help our daily lives. Seamless technology has revolutionized the apparel industry making sewing operations obsolete. I love what Patricia is doing: creating something that makes women feel comfortable yet sexy. Real has entered into an exclusionary manufactoring agreement using proprietary knitting machines that create seamless lace therefore offering trendy feminility. I admire women that battle every day to create a business out of an idea: making women empowered.
What is your mission?
To help women to celebrate who they are. We are ALL amazing and beautiful. Who doesn’t feel empowered when they feel and look their best.
Lingerie is the first thing a woman puts on to start her day. Woman who wear our product truly feel comfortable in their own skin, and can take on the world.
We are all about embracing the REAL you.

Are you a Millennial? What do you think about Millennials?
I am a baby boomer and twice the age of my design crew. However, the connection is there. They are driven, fearless, and enthusiastic. They are also extremely tech savvy. When I entered the fashion industry computer programs like Creative Suite didn’t exist. The possibilities are endless. I think I have learned more from my “millennial” team than they have learned from me!
If you are here it means that you love fashion. Why?
The Arts run strong throughout my entire family: several are musicians and we have an artist or two. Not your run of the mill B-flat personality types. I spent many years in the theater and was especially intrigued with costume design. This fascination with garments, their history, and their function led me to a patternmaking career. Once I had the fundamentals under my belt, I could allow my imagination go wild. All my designs have a “flow” to them and evoke an emotional response. It’s how I express myself.
** Here is my “Empowering Style” collection for Patricia, all about the REAL you.

**Here Patricia is working on her creations, and shows a real artist at work. I find this picture very poetic and elegant. I love the double color research on these lingerie models, very classy and unique.

**Pink Power all the way…and freedom to express.

** I styled a REAL top for this look and I recevied so many compliments on my Instagram. I love the fact that these products can be worn as fashion accessories and not only lingerie.
What cannot miss from your wardrobe?
A thong that actually fits. We all hate panty lines and there is nothing worse than walking around all day with a “Wedgie”. Our Real Core Essentials thong is as close as you can come to going “commando.” Our silken microfiber feels like a second skin. Plus I have incorporated ample front and back rise length to insure the best in fit flexibility and comfort.
**This is a savior. There is nothing more unsexy and uncofortable then wearing a pair of pants or a nice skirt and to see the underwear underneeth. It is a fashion big nope and makes you feel un at ease at your big day at work, on your date night, at your girls out power moment. Thank you Patricia!
Your favorite pair of shoes and why?
New Balance sneakers hands down. I have an intense personality, (a true Virgo!) and de-stress by power walking. I tune in to classical music and just pound the pavement. This is how I relax my body and mind and when I “design.”

What is your style, and what you cannot stand in people, inside and out?
My designs are pure and easy. I take (1) aesthetic element and allow it to dictate the styling. I want the consumer to have (1) focal point that draws her in.
Never been fond of people who put on “airs”. Be yourself, be genuine, be real… (no pun intended).
What is your fashion mantra?
The 20ft Rule
What that means is when a garment is hanging in the store and a customer walks in at 20ft away she’s going to be drawn to it because there is something exciting about it.
What is that magic word that speaks about you?
Funny. I love to laugh and make people smile. It’s SO good for the soul!
What is a wish that you would commit to grant this year to someone paying it forward?
As I mentioned, the Arts have played an intrinsic role in my life, especially music. I would sponsor a group of students to attend some of the Young People Concerts at the NY Philharmonic. It will open up a whole new world for them.
**This is such a sweet commitment. It would also be nice if we could select a dreamer from The Wishwall and send her to see you at work and learn about how to become a little bit like you. You are definetely an inspiration for Millennials. Can we do that?
Thank you so much Patricia for being a real leader who uses technology for a better fashion. I am looking forward to see you next creations to empower women.
As always, make your wishes come true.
From Philadelphia, The Celebrity Wishmaker Simonetta Lein.
