This is a very particular piece and a very dear one to me. 2018 couldn’t have started in a better way. I was thrilled when Ivy – The Social University – asked me to host the Ivy Silver and Gold Winter Gala at the Bowery Hotel in New York and to ring in the new year with a powerful global group of people. Ivy is a community committed to uniting the next generation of creators, innovators, and leaders to connect and make an impact through dynamic experiences across a broad range of interests. I am passionate about future generations, I have always looked up to them: trying to find ways to inspire and possibly to educate. This was really a true  honor.

I could tell you all about it but today I have a special guest writer. The beauty of social media lies in the opportunity to meet incredible people and this gala gave me the chance to have some of my “tribe” members come meet me. Finally seeing the face that you have been talking to for months (or even years) is an emotion that only the social media savvy can understand. One of my “tribe babes” is who I have asked to guest write this piece –  so that I could see it myself through her eyes. I would like to introduce you to Lorena Campos: journalist and Ivy guest.

Silver and gold set the tone for an atmosphere of connection and allure among the young and intellectually curious in their tuxedos and long dresses who were gathered to celebrate the new year at the Silver & Gold Winter Gala promoted by Ivy: The Social University. Hundreds of Ivy members strolled under spotlights and mingled amidst the Bowery Hotel’s opulent glass chandeliers and velvet curtains at the annual gala this past weekend in New York.

Ivy, contrary to what one may think, is not only for those who attended an Ivy League university. One of the hottest membership-driven companies now, Ivy seeks to connect leaders and professionals from diverse backgrounds, through unique experiences such as trips to hot spots, sought-after concerts and visits to exclusive exhibitions. The Silver & Gold Winter Gala, already in its seventh edition, is part of the extensive list of successful social events promoted by Ivy.

This year, the gala benefited Roots and Wings, a charity that fights against poverty and seeks to empower families. Since one crucial element of Ivy: The Social University is their engagement in charity and philanthropy, the host of the Silver & Gold Winter Gala was necessarily someone who is also engaged in social causes.

Chosen as host for this new year’s edition, fashion icon, influencer and The Celebrity Wishmaker Simonetta Lein received Ivy members in a glamorous embroidered red dress by designer Jacqueline Then with a smile that translates the true meaning of an organization founded by her: The Wishwall Foundation. The Wishwall Foundation is an organization that serves as a catalyst to bring together written stories by people from across the globe who express their true wishes for change via The Wishwall Online and The Wishwall in Every City. The Foundation collaborates with others throughout the year to help implement those desires that generate the greatest social impact.

“The Wishwall is built on the principal of paying it forward and this is the way for them to celebrate not only past wishes and grant new ones, but a way to inspire others to pay it forward,” explains the host Simonetta Lein.

During her speech as host of the Silver & Gold Winter Gala’s Ivy, Simonetta Lein – who is also a hot personality on social media – recalled that as much as partying and being on a gala night is fun, it is also important to remember that many out there need the help of those who can promote change.
