Who are you and what is the name of your business?

My name is Anjelika Kour and I founded DigitalDesign.NYC , a tech design agency in 2015, where we focus on design & development of mobile apps, web platforms, UI/UX, and other design & development services. At DigitalDesign.nyc we build and incubate a number of interesting fashion and lifestyle startups – such as:

Brick & Portal ( brickandportal.com ) – an internally incubated fashion app and styling platform for creating looks on the fly from an array of over 600 retailers and over 8 million items (all updated in real time).

Snailz ( snailzapp.com ) – a nail salon booking app giving New Yorker’s access to over 250 nail salons to book directly on the app like restaurant reservations from Open Table.

Sample Sale 212 ( samplesale212.com ) – real NYC sample sales brought to shoppers online for those limited few days the sales happen physically in NYC. Sample Sales reviewed include La Perla, Herce Leger, Theory, Proenza Schouler, Versace, Phillip Lim, and many others.

What is your brand about?

Our brand is about great design, cutting edge UI/UX, and superior tech. DigitalDesign.NYC is more than a design and development agency – because we are creative technologists and we help startups build on their ideas, monetize their concepts, and build better products the world needs. Many of our projects and clients often get incubated by us as well – and we run these many brands under the DigitalDesign.NYC family umbrella. What is your mission?

Our mission is to bring good ideas into reality and realize their true potential. Go beyond the build and into the grind with the companies. We hope to work with many new startups in the fashion/beauty and lifestyle space going forward with a consistent focus on female-run/founded startups. I’ve personally organized and ran the Women in Tech Summit of New York and many other events focusing on female-entrepreneurship and women in technology – I am a huge proponent of this, long overdue, business industry shift.

Are you a Millennial? What do you think about Millennials?

I would say I definitely am by birth year and by my social media usage. But in many other ways, I am an old soul. You can find me on Instagram using the handle @globalnewyorker and see for yourself.

If you are here it means that you love fashion. Why?

Of course, I love fashion! I have founded and built a number of fashion startups and am constantly finding ways to contribute more to the e-commerce and online shopping communities. My latest venture Sample Sale 212 (samplesale212.com) is a way to bring the best kept NYC secret of sample sales online for the world to access what only select New Yorkers were able to access before.

What cannot miss from your wardrobe?

I definitely love my Karl Lagerfeld black leather finger-less gloves. I don’t wear them everyday, but they give me the strength I need on my most toughest of days.

I’ve also been obsessed with Cerimani ( cerimani.com ) jewelry and Galpon ( galpon.co ) hats. Cerimani crafts their precious pieces in Thailand and give big chunk of the profit back to the village where it was made. Galpon is an authentic panama hat producer (in Ecuador, of course) and has some of the most cool hat designs I’ve been psyched to bring on my trips around the world.

Other items would include my classic Levis jeans, Here / Now sneakers, a classic grey or black turtleneck, and other amazing finds from Sample Sale 212.

Your favorite pair of shoes and why?

I like many shoes and have been an avid Louboutin and Jimmy Choo girl for years. Just recently I discovered a new brand called Here / Now ( herenowshop.com ) that retail authentic fur embellished sneakers and have been absolutely obsessed. I’ve been wearing them everywhere and am so psyched for their heeled sneaker collection coming up next season!

What is your style, and what you cannot stand in people, inside and out?

My style is sophisticated with a touch of Avant-Gardre. I definitely like to surprise people and am not afraid of vivid colors, bold looks, and big coats. Checkout @globalnewyorker on Instgaram to see more!

What is your fashion mantra?

Running a business is like being in a battle field – I wear my fashion as my ammunition.

What is that magic word that speaks about you?

My magic word would be two words “hard work”. I recommend most try it and see how far the magic really goes!

What is a wish that you would commit to grant this year to someone paying it forward?

#Water ForThe People Project Funded by The WishWall Foundation 2024. #AWishGrantedInProgress The rural population of Muwanga in kiboga district Uganda draws their water from unprotected springs or swamps located from 300 to 600 meters (328 to 656 yards) from the villages or from hand-dug wells, locally known as (bidiba). The (bidiba) are primitive wells with an average depth of about six meters and with a diameter about the size of a large truck tire and uncovered at the top. The water collected from swamps (bidiba) is used for bathing, washing clothes, cooking and drinking, also shared, by cows, goats, hens and dogs Unfortunately, the shared use of swamps, (bidiba),springs for washing laundry, bathing and cooking is unsanitary and promotes a number of health problems. According to 2021 clinical data/information obtained from mama Tendo who owns a local clinic here in Kigoma Village most of the sick patients she treats suffer from diarrhea, typhoid, dysentery and intestinal stomach aches. The WishwallFoundation is Funding Muwanga Development Association a local organisation to establish a modren Well to provide safe-clean water the people of kiboga in Uganda. The president of Muwanga Development Association said “ the local people here have contracted diseases from these dirty water sources for many years” but now friends from The WishwallFoundation have done them good” A BIG THANK YOU.

In the past few weeks, we have embarked on a renewed health project with the WishWall Foundation to support good health and well-being. We have made substantial progress with renovating the primary health care center. As a result of the tireless work of skilled labor, we have completed the flooring, replaced wooden window outlets with Aluminium windows, and fixed leakages on the roof. Also, we are happy to commence the reconstruction of the toilet facility, which will be completed in a few weeks. At the end of the toilet construction, we shall begin the final phase of painting and donating drugs and some medical equipment to the facility.

Title: Meet Prinicipal Claris Madame Claris played soccer with KGSA back in the early 2000s before it evolved into a free high school for girls. She was an amazing goalkeeper and still enjoys playing ⚽️ with her students. Claris has been teaching math and geography for over ten years at the Kibera Girls Soccer Academy and leads the school as Principal. Last year, the Executive Director of iRead To Live Initiatve, Jacob Sule accompanied by Ayisat Abiona , Program Manager of iRead visited some schools in Osun State Nigeria as part of their intervention for literacy & efforts to transforming education in Nigeria. They were displeased by what they saw and reached out to their partners, the WishWall Foundation for support. The Founder of WishWall Foundation, Ms Simonetta Lein graciously approved funding for the renovation of the library. iRead Initiative hired skilled labors for the reconstruction of the external Walls , painters to paint the facility and artisans to build new books shelves, and tables. Today... From all of us at iRead, we are super excited and grateful to the WishWall Foundation to be able to do this, support literacy and transform education in Osun State Nigeria. After weeks of renovation and purchase of some basic needs, we are now approaching the completion phase of the library for the usage of students. Today is Equal Pay Day! Sixty years after it became illegal to pay men more than women for similar work, we’re still playing catch up in the USA. Wishwall believes that women deserve equal pay for equal work! It’s disappointing that women are still paid less than men across all industries. We are proud to partner with the Kibera Girls Soccer Academy to promote gender equality in education and hope that these girls will receive equitable pay when they enter the workforce in Kenya after graduating.

Towering over the tin roof homes in Kibera, the new dormitory at the Kibera Girls Soccer Academy (KGSA) is the pride of the Makina neighborhood. This state of the art three story facility has a rooftop soccer field that just recently began providing a safe place for girls to study, eat, sleep (and dream). KGSA is a free, holistic high school that serves 130 girls every year located in the largest informal settlement – the largest slum – in Africa. Almost a million people live in a region the size of New York City’s Central Park with no running water, bathrooms or reliable electricity in their homes. While the educational gender gap has been decreasing in Sub-Saharan Africa, there’s still room for improvement. The World Economic Forum in 2022, identified that amount of girls in lower and upper secondary levels is not at the same rate as their male peers. In a country, where 44% of girls don't finish high school, the Kibera Girls Soccer Academy is filling a tremendous need for girls and their families in Kenya. Unlike the USA, public high school isn’t free in Kenya. Many families can’t afford to pay for the high school tuition, uniforms, books, school supplies and other fees for their children, so boys often get preferential treatment leaving the girls behind. Many girls become teen brides and teen mothers depending on men to support them. Research shows that girls who complete high school earn more, marry later and have less children. That’s why KGSA’s mission is so important! KGSA educates 130+ girls a year giving girls the opportunity to shape their future and break the cycle of poverty. We are a proud partner of the Kibera Girls Soccer Academy and hope others will join us in supporting this very important school in Kenya in 2023. #EducateHer4Life

She and her senior classmates have ended their high school journey at the Kibera Girls Soccer Academy. Despite cheering for different teams, the girls and teachers are all celebrating Morocco - the first African nation EVER to qualify for the World Cup semifinals. Today is the 10th annual International Day of the Girl. We celebrate Aisha and the other 135 girls studying at KGSA and the 370 girls who have graduated through the years. When we invest in girls, we transform their lives and enable them to uplift everyone and everything around them breaking the cycle of poverty for themselves, their families and their communities.
