The Calm Before the Storm - A Poem

Date Published:

The waves of votes washed in last night

But I never thought I'd see this sight

The waves of votes washed in last night

to the shores of The United States

But I feel divided in my current state

wondering how our crew will fare

in this less than fair place we call home

now that we are being lead by a new leader and captain of the ship who spits vile slander like violently unpredictable waves that crash because of what Van Jones calls "whitelash"

And friends send out texts like an SOS

signaling their somber thoughts wondering "what's next" for a country so deep in the Marianas Trench at a point of no return

Do we return to the days of slaves?

Do we have any hope of being saved?

A turbulent storm has hit our unsinkable ship

But my allies and I are not backing down

This is the calm before the storm

Let this be your warning

This is the calm before the storm

but we will never conform

to this hatred and racism

that is more American than apple pie

The waves of votes washed in last night

I never thought I'd see this sight

The waves of votes washed in last night

Praying to Kendrick that "we gon' be alright"
