Seeds of Change: Empowering Rural Dreams
Date Published:
In Uganda, over 70% of women live in rural areas and contribute significantly to agriculture and informal trade. However, their businesses often remain small and vulnerable due to:
Limited access to affordable credit
Low financial literacy
Gender-based social constraints
Lack of mentorship and support networks
Many rural women rely on expensive or predatory lending options that trap them in debt. This project provides an alternative: interest-free microloans paired with mentorship and training to promote long-term, sustainable income generation.
Objectives
Provide entrepreneurship training and mentorship to 500 rural women in Tororo
Disburse interest-free microloans to 300 women to launch or grow micro-enterprises
Strengthen rural women’s capacity for financial management, record keeping, and digital tools
Foster local peer networks and women’s savings groups to ensure sustainability
