Youths combating climate change through briquettes
Date Published:
Youths in Mzimba district, Malawi, have innovated the possible solution to climate change effects that are due to deforestation by making briquettes from waste materials such as tree dry leaves, sugar cane remains, potato peels, maize brans and others wastes.s
Muumoza Youth organisation would like to train more youths and young women in rural areas and urban areas to be making these briquettes. The innovation will not only conserve natural environment but also create jobs and income to youths as they will be trained how to make them and create markets for them in urban areas where they depend much on charcoal, hence a substitute found.
The project will target 2500 youths and is for 12 months which needs about $20,000.
We understand the project to be sustainable as when youths are trained and starting raising funds through market to be created, they will continue and passing it to others.
