This week it's my honor to share Sheri's story with our readers. (Time to lean in and listen--mahalo!)
Aloha ohana (friends, neighbors, community),
My name is Sheri Smith. I’m pleased to e-meet you as a kindred spirit and creative. As creatives we MUST create!
My wish is to bring joy and laughter into the people’s lives for whom I cater and write.
I learned to read and write when I was three years old and haven’t stopped writing since. The apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree. I followed my dad‘s path of becoming a serial entrepreneur.
Luckily, I settled on being a caterer/event specialist because I’m great at it. (It’s true, I’ve used her company! ~AkashaLin)
My ex and I began catering all you can eat nonprofit high school sports banquets. We expanded to serve the community with intimate socials, weddings, quinces, baby showers, and then large corporate events, picnics, and holiday soirees. We learned to handle every aspect of events, including DJs, photo booths, face painters, balloon artists and custom themes, basically whatever the client needed.
When I’m not catering, I write. I wrote a screenplay (http://www.peoplemakeplans.com) and am currently working on two more projects (Mama Drama and When We Wrote Letters).
In my spare time I train dogs for love, not money, and presently am fostering two German Shepherds for a Navy man who is deployed on a submarine protecting us. I am also passionate about saving the planet. If we do not take care of our planet, where will we live? (Louise Hay)
This book of poetry was written as my soon-to-be husband, and I were building our business and our brand on Hawaii’s Big Island: gourmetcatering.com. We’re not together anymore, but creativity keeps me grounded. Now I just want to be able to make enough money to pursue both endeavors and do both well. Silly? I believe that as we head up the ladder of success, we need to extend a hand down to help the next person. Akasha is the embodiment of this. The more and longer I get to know her, the more I love and admire her. We have had (and are still having) an amazing journey together. If I can be one tenth the inspiration that this woman is? I’ll take it! This also goes for giving back to the community which she does so well (Teen Cancer America). When I decided to feed and clothe our homeless brothers and sisters in my community during the pandemic, I was showered with abundance. I’m grateful for my community, and for new members of the tribe.
My dream one day is to bring tiny homes here to SoCal, especially for the vets who served our country. It feels right since I am a Navy vet.
I lived in and loved Hawaii for fifteen years and learned to live aloha–not just a word, a way of life. It is my belief that if everyone lived Aloha this world would be a better place. But what do I know? Where is my shrug emoji?
