My Dream is to Make Television that Matters

Date Published:

My name is Dom Evans. I am a director and writer. I have a film degree in production, and I've been trying to develop media that matters for years. I was born with a neuromuscular disability called spinal muscular atrophy. I've been using a wheelchair since I was 16 years old and I'm in my mid-40s now. I'm also a trans man and I am bisexual. It's been hard to get Hollywood to take me seriously. Despite that, I have the ability to show that I'm capable as a director and creator. I'm one of the leading experts on disability representation in the world. My partner and I have released three studies into disability representation through our media group FilmDis. I also directed a music video during the pandemic, from my home, with the help of Ridley Scott's Wild Gift productions. I helped create the song "SPACES" with singer James Ian, and was the main director for the music video. My next goal is to create television. My partner and I have written multiple scripts and we have actors interested in the roles. One show has actors attached. But we don't have the money to shoot a pilot. These are shows that are getting huge praise for their diversity. They feature women, Indigenous people, Deaf and disabled characters,, Black folks, the LGBTQIA community. An actor who was on Star Trek Picard said our scripts are effortlessly inclusive. People want our shows to be made but the only thing holding them back is money. We think we can change the world with our TV shows and show the world that disabled people like me are capable of anything including directing amazing television. I want to help change the world and you can help me do so. Please consider my wish. Thank you so much for your consideration. ID: The photo I've included is a sketch from our costume designer for one of the shows where we have an actor attached. It is a sketch for SPACE PIRATES, our sci-fi series starring NBC New Amsterdam's Sandra Mae Frank as a Deaf space pirate who is being hunted across the galaxy while investigating a deadly attack.
