Twase Women Development Trust proposes a three-pronged project
entitled Women of Value to help meet the educational, vocational, and
personal health challenges of 2,700 vulnerable and disadvantaged
adolescent girls and women in Kasese District of Uganda (500 school-aged
girls to receive school supplies, 200 girls and women to acquire
hairdressing skills, and 2,000 girls to learn to make sanitary pads.

For every 94% girl children who attend primary one, only 32% reach
primary seven, according to Kasese District's Senior Probation and Social
Welfare Officer. Three-quarters of the children who start primary education
never make it to secondary level. A primary cause of the high dropout rate
among girls is early and forced child marriage. Kasese District has one of
the highest rates of child marriage in Uganda. Child marriage considered a
human rights violation because it deprives girls of education and health
services as well as the opportunity to learn vocational skills and leaves
them vulnerable.

This project will provide 500 school-aged Vulnerable girls with school
supplies to encourage them to stay in school. Many girls drop out of school
because they cannot afford fees and supplies. 2,000 girls in 10 schools
learn to make sanitary pads during three sessions. Having a reliable
source of sanitary pads will encourage girls to stay in school, 200 girls learn
hairdressing, and tailoring.

1. Girls who participate in the project will stay in school and avoid early
marriage.
2. Girls and women who learn hairdressing skills in the project will be able
to generate income to support themselves and their families and will
become more self-reliant and less vulnerable.
3. Girls learning to make sanitary pads will have to make pads available for
themselves hence delaying sexual relationships that have resulted into
early pregnancies hence dropping out of school. It is discovered that girls
most girls do not have money to buy pads, their parents not minding. as a
way to have the pads available, they end up getting involved in sexual
relationships that make most of them drop from school.
