Lighting the Path: Empowering Women and Girls in PNG

Hi,

My name is Nawi, and I’m reaching out from Papua New Guinea (PNG) with an exciting and impactful project I’m working on. I’m seeking your support to help make it a reality. This initiative offers a sustainable solution to the ongoing issue of inequality that continues to affect many marginalized communities here.

As highlighted in the UNDP report, Papua New Guinea has some of the highest rates of inequality in the world (https://www.undp.org/sites/g/files/zskgke326/files/2023-03/undp_png_genderstrategy_2023.pdf). Sadly, this inequality has a disproportionate effect on women and girls, who are often the most vulnerable to gender-based violence and other forms of discrimination.

As a Changemaker, my mission is to help reduce the severity of this inequality. With your support, we can work together to create real, lasting change.

The Solution

I plan to establish "modern-day spaces" in underdeveloped communities places that offer essentials like electricity, internet, and online banking. These thresholds will serve as hubs for growth and empowerment, particularly for women and girls.

By harnessing the power of current technological advancements, I will create small-scale spaces that are equipped with accessible, easy-to-install tech products. These products include:

• Koolboks Chest Freezers (https://www.koolboks.com/) to help preserve market goods,

By repurposing these technologies, I will create thriving hubs that can transform barren communities and empower people to grow. For example, the Bluetti Solar Generators, typically used as backup power in industrialized countries, will provide sustainable energy for social and economic development in these marginalized communities.

The Impact

The project will begin in a remote, unconnected village rich in local resources. Women and girls from this community and neighboring villages will be trained to tap into these resources, engage in small-scale businesses, and generate income for their families. This approach will empower them to build better lives while simultaneously transforming their communities.
