Voice of Women
Date Published:
My name is Alice live Maina. Born and Raised in rural Kenya. When I was growing up, violence in my home and in the neighbouhood against women and girls was a common thing. After school, I came to Nairobi and later got married after securing a job.I thought that I would now settle in a neighbohood free of GBV.This wasn't the case and in like every 5 of my neighbours, 2 families experienced fightings that affected the women and the children so much, my heart pained.
Currently, I head The women ministry in my church,( Christ is the Answer Ministry Kangundo Road Branch) and a recent survey on the topics that women would want us to tackle in our monthky meeting, the issue of Gender Base Violence (GBV) topped the list of the topics to be addressed in the church.
In this month of April 2024, we were able to have a forum for women, creating awareness and breaking silence on GBV in the church community. The outcome of this meeting brought about so many women who are victims of GBV, who need support and connection to services that would set them free from the domestic Violence. To be able to do this, I need help in creating more awareness to both men and women, to have trainings that would equip women with Knowledge to identify issues of GBV, connecting the victims to legal advisors and profesional Counselors.
I plan to start this off in my neighborhood, by holding forums to create awareness on GBV before getting to other groups of communities. I therefore seek you help me achieve my wish and be a part of my journey in breaking silence on GBV in my community. This will change the narrative that gender based violence is normal.
