FE: Bring your movie love

Date Published: 4/29/2021

“It's very important for us to tell our daughters that they should be strong. But to tell our sons that they can be vulnerable, to have these characters on screen that are not perfectly masculine cowboys that never fail, for our boys to change their psyche as well, that's equally important...” ~Chloe Zhao, Oscar winner, Best Director

Chloe Zhao was awarded Best Director for “Nomadland” at the 93rd Academy Awards on Sunday night, becoming the first woman of color in history to win in the category and only the second woman director overall.

In her speech, Zhao thanked her “Nomadland” cast and crew, then offered advice on her way of coping “when things get hard.”

I appreciate that when “Nomadland” won Best Picture, Frances McDormand delivered a full-throated endorsement of the theatrical experience. You’d think that a show whose motto was “bring your movie love” would have understood the rooms in which that love is born and flourishes and how much those theaters need to be supported today and tomorrow.

Congrats to all the Oscar winners!
