The Green Eyes Project Uganda
Date Published: 7/01/2024
I asked students in Uganda what kind of world they wished to see in the next ten years. Out of many responses, the dominant one was the wish to see a green world. After lengthy discussions, we decided that we would do something very inspiring and very big. The name was gotten out of the fact that what we look at with our eyes, reflects in our eyes. So we want to plant so many trees that when you look at your neighbour's eyes, all you see reflecting in them is the green from the green environment that they look at and enjoy. We decided that in the next three years, everyone in the club would plant 195 trees. !95 trees is representative of the 195 countries in the world. The idea is that if I plant a tree to represent USA for instance, every one in USA reciprocates by planting one for Uganda. We can plant many millions of trees like this by reciprocity and continuing the chain. We have started on a small scale and want launch in 300 schools by the end of this year. We launch and also send word out, This project has the potential to grow like a world fire. 195 trees planted by everyone in the world would mean billions of trees. We have got a one time funding of $1000 from the Pollination project but that is too small. We need more funding to make this possible. We want to buy seedlings which are expensive so that we supply to the schools where we launch and make clubs. We will then go to other parts of the country and continue to other countries. We would like to build a website where our information is spread and be able to make this a global project. We use school students because they are still young, energetic and flexible. But the project also targets all people and all ages
