"My heart is broken for the families in Highland Park affected by today's shooting" ~Rachel Brosnahan

Rachel Brosnahan grew up in Highland Park, and she shared her shock and sorrow after Monday's mass shooting in the Illinois suburb.

A gunman from a nearby rooftop opened fire on hundreds of people gathering in the central business area for the annual Fourth of July parade. At least 7 people have died, while more than 40 have been injured.

Highland Park is about 27 miles north of downtown Chicago. The July 4th parade is a one of Highland Park's signature events, Brosnahan said on Monday. "I grew up in Highland Park and this parade is a highlight of the year for so many families," the Marvelous Life of Mrs. Maisel actress, 31, tweeted on Monday afternoon.

"I'm sick to my stomach every time news like this comes out, but I don't wish the pit in your stomach as you call your family and friends to make sure everyone is okay on anyone," she wrote. "No words."

Brosnahan shared a donation link to the Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund https://secure.actblue.com/donate/everytown-web-2022Â along with the words, "Enough is enough is enough is enough is enough is enough is enough is enough is enough."

I’ve written about too many mass shooting before and have shared the wish for action and resolution on The Wishwall over the last 5 years.

This time, I was actually in Highland Park hours before the shooting for a concert and then drove a little further north to attend a different parade. We were quickly evacuated after the sad news of this horrific mass shooting started to spread. Our parade happened quickly…but many other gatherings, fireworks and events were cancelled as law enforcement searched for the gunman into the evening when the suspect was captured, and then confessed to the shootings.

I have listened as many of my friends and neighbors along the Northshore and Chicago have shared their frustrations, anger and fear. I have donated to the Gun Safety Action Fund again as a way to do *something*. I completely agreed that enough is enough!
