Embrace "The Other"

Date Published: 11/25/2016

Thanksgiving was yesterday in the States and it is a moment to embrace. For many it was a time of turmoil, but we should learn important lessons from our election-based conversations like how to embrace "The Other."

It may be hard, but we have to realize there is no good side or bad side, instead we must realize both sides are one in the same. That is my wish for this Thanksgiving: I hope people have enlightened conversations with someone they may disagree with and walk away with some newfound knowledge. I want people to feel empowered to speak their truth instead of trying to convince someone that they are wrong.

Let's try and move the pendulum a degree or two. Have "The Other" think of something that they may not have thought of before. Let's try and motivate everyone to think in a more loving way and ultimately express how they truthfully feel about the election. It may be hard to remember, but they are your loved ones and you should feel free to discuss your thoughts with them.

If you are reading this and are finding it hard to endure your dinner then bravely forgive the way they think, behave or act and then make your own path. Realize how powerful you are for being able to communicate with people who have different views than you. I hope this helps to heal your wounds. I hope you realize the power of your voice.
