This proposal aims to support Ugandan women farmers by providing them with seeds and fertilizers to enhance agricultural productivity, improve food security, and promote economic empowerment. By addressing the critical need for fertilizers, this initiative seeks to uplift women farmers and contribute to sustainable development in Wakiso district Uganda.
2. Background and Rationale
• Current Situation: In Uganda, women play a vital role in agriculture, constituting a significant portion of the farming workforce. However, they often face challenges in accessing essential resources such as seeds and fertilizers.
• Challenges: The lack of access to seeds and fertilizers leads to lower crop yields and incomes, perpetuating cycles of poverty and food insecurity among women farmers.
• Opportunity: Providing seeds and fertilizers to women farmers can significantly increase crop productivity, leading to improved livelihoods and economic stability.
3. Objectives
• Primary Objective: To enhance agricultural productivity and income for Ugandan women farmers by providing them with fertilizers.
• Specific Objectives:
1. Increase crop yields by 20-30% through the use of quality seeds and fertilizers.
2. Improve knowledge and skills in effective and sustainable seed and fertilizer application.
3. Promote sustainable agricultural practices.
4. Target Beneficiaries
• Primary Beneficiaries: Women farmers in rural areas of Uganda in Wakiso District.
• Secondary Beneficiaries: Local communities, including families and dependents of the women farmers.
5. Implementation Strategy
• Partnerships: Collaborate with the WISHWALL FOUNDATION
• Training Programs: Develop and conduct training sessions on the effective and sustainable use of seed and fertilizers.
• Distribution Mechanism: Establish a reliable and equitable distribution system to ensure timely delivery of seeds and fertilizers to women farmers.
• Monitoring and Evaluation: Implement a robust M&E framework to track progress, measure impact, and make necessary adjustments.
6. Activities and Timeline
• Phase 1 (Month 1): Establish partnerships with key stakeholders and WISHWALL FOUNDATION
• Phase 2 (Month 2): Develop training programs and initiate training sessions for women farmers.
• Phase 3 (Month 3-4): Distribute of seed and fertilizers
• Phase 4 (Month 5-7): Monitor and evaluate the impact of the initiative and compile a comprehensive reports and show case the farmers’ yields.
