That quote is sage advice as many of us have been socializing less and staying in to help flatten the curve during the COVID-19 pandemic. Confession: There’s no reason to be bored once you find your passion! We’ll share inspo for those at home and those ready for a new chapter.
I recently had a lively chat with my talented chef friend, Gloria Dattulo Hafer. Her culinary courses are on hold with her students…yet expanding online. Chef Gloria teaches an “After School Matters†program, inspiring young people to learn the culinary arts and cook healthy meals with whatever's in the house. She’s taught a healthy eating class to inner city school children’s parents to help stem the tide of childhood obesity as well.
I have to say meeting Gloria was one of my most memorable encounters in Chicago! Gloria and I met at the Red Carpet Concierge award ceremony, where she was crowned “Socialite of the Year†and I was celebrated as “Best Eventsâ€. Fun fact: Gloria loves to relax by wearing elegant hats, and ensembles enhanced with plenty of bling. (She’s known as “Gloria the Hatâ€) She sparkled all evening with her entourage, and I knew I just had to meet her! These were my sailing and film-related event years, so I was able to work with Gloria on several sailing events; we became fast friends. I’ve visited Gloria’s classes, students and events over the last several years and they are crème de la crème.
Recently, Gloria and her students were recognized on a national level for The Drake Hotel’s gingerbread display: “2019 Historic Hotels of America Top 25 Most Magnificent Gingerbread Displaysâ€.
