The Olympics Can Combat Homelessness
Date Published: 8/02/2017
On Monday the International Olympic Committee announced that Paris will host the 2024 games and Los Angeles will host the 2028 games.
As a native to Los Angeles, I'm really excited to see the Olympics come back to my city for a third time. I'm assuming the next 11 years will come quickly for everyone hosting this extravagant event.
I hear that the extra income coming to Los Angeles will help support youth sport organizations across town. While that's amazing to hear, we can't forget that we are facing other problems in LA as well.
My wish is that the great city of Los Angeles take some of that extra money given to them by the IOC and help build affordable living spaces and homeless shelters for our rising homeless population. We have to realize that the Olympics will be exciting during their 14-day summer stay in LA, but homelessness can last years.
Maybe various countries from across the world could join together and help combat homelessness worldwide! I guess we will have to wait and see. Until then, I hope all of you have an amazing week.
