Funding towards adult diapers for our orphaned residents

It is estimated that one billion people worldwide have some form of disability. Many of these vulnerable people are excluded from crucial aspects of life and, for the most part, are denied equal access to basic societal rights.

We at Irene Homes perceive it as vital to create a safe environment in which people with disabilities can enjoy contributing to our community while also benefiting from all fundamental rights to which they are entitled. Our goal for those in need that we serve is to empower them and assist them in finding meaningful opportunities. The more proficient our residents become, the more successfully they can integrate into society.

The Irene Homes estate is a residential facility for 88 women with intellectual disabilities that provides 6 residential homes, a chapel, 3 workshops, a clinic, a one-of-a-kind Charity Shop, and a hall large enough to host a soiree. It is located in the heart of Irene, Pretoria, South Africa, tucked away on a serene 8.2-hectare plot of land between the Irene Farm and the bustling streets of Centurion.

To preserve our fort with all of its holistic services, we require a substantial funding source. We also require an army of 60 dedicated staff who administer this incredible estate, and they work tirelessly to achieve this aim while simultaneously fulfilling the needs of each resident.

As with any charity, the majority of our resources are sought rather than purchased. With financial challenges on the rise and budget cuts for NPOs in South Africa, securing funds and contributions has become a difficult task. However, our residents only know that everything they need is provided, our estate is kept clean, and they have a secure sanctuary where they may be the greatest versions of themselves. They have no idea where the funding comes from or how things are done. We just do it!

Irene Homes hereby appeal to the Wishwall Foundation for support towards our nappy drive for our senior ladies. Currently, we use 9 packets of large and medium adult nappies/pull-ups per week in our senior house, seeing that seniors with disabilities often have a disproportionately high need for nappies.

Persons with disabilities are frequently denied dignity, comfort, and freedom of mobility, and their health is greatly impacted when they do not wear diapers.

Disposable nappies are prohibitively expensive for the majority of families who have children with disabilities, and because the majority of our elderly ladies do not have family who can provide for them, Irene Homes must bear the cost, which adds up to a significant amount on our annual budget.

Your donation can help us give our seniors the freedom to move and the dignity and comfort they deserve! Thank you!
