Businesses That Give Back During Breast Cancer Awareness Month
About one in eight women will get breast cancer in their life, according to the CDC. Here are some of the symptoms of breast cancer that everyone should know. Early detection with screening methods including self-exams and mammograms before the cancer spreads beyond the breast can help with overall survival rates, per the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
One way to help people realize the importance of breast health is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It started in 1985 with former First Lady Betty Ford — who was diagnosed with breast cancer when President Ford was in office — helping with the inaugural event (via Brevard Health Alliance). The initiative has grown over the years, and there are a number of ways to get involved in the month of October. That includes a number of businesses donating proceeds from sales of certain items to support breast cancer research and support for those who are impacted by breast cancer.
I’m continuing to support my local breast cancer foundation with a donation. I highly recommend the Silver Lining Gala for an inspirational event hosted by Dr. Sandy Goldberg.
Here’s how they help: Thanks to A Silver Lining Foundation, more than 400 people received free breast health tests at Ascension Saint Joseph – Elgin in fiscal year 2022. The vision of A Silver Lining Foundation has always been to help everyone access the breast health tests they need: https://asilverliningfoundation.org
From skincare to shoes to spa treatments, check out more businesses dedicated to helping the fight against breast cancer.
