Mistakes to Avoid with a Digital Brand

I wish to help all of us wrap the year on a high note and have more peace of mind. Check out mistakes to avoid for your digital brand, and read on for tips we’ll share to erase holiday stress.

Not finding a balance between quantity and quality

The quantity of stories published every day is important for bringing in traffic--but so too is the quality of those stories. You don't want to just publish a bunch of aggregated stories or just a couple of really high-quality stories. Finding a balance is essential. To ensure quality of stories for clients I work with, each one went through at least two rounds of editing, including fact checking. But we found that because we need that much content every day, we were featuring stories that perhaps weren't the most on-brand for us. Since then, we've scaled back, and have hopefully found a balance between the short, newsy stuff--which we always try to add a little something extra to, rather than simply aggregating--and the more in-depth stories we know our readers love: long reads, big questions, strange history, informative lists, etc.

Not knowing your brand

We talk about this often, no hopefully this is a given for regular readers.  For quick reference, refining and new readers, definitely read more about defining your brand from Future Entrepreneurs:

Not being transparent with sourcing, and not checking facts

Readers deserve to know where information is coming from, so hyperlinking is a must. So is fact checking--it's impossible to be perfect, obviously, but getting things wrong erodes reader trust. Fact checking is time consuming but necessary, even if you don't have a dedicated person devoted to doing it. For example, last week I wrote about empathy as a branding tool, and referenced medical content as well:

Using photos without permission

I cannot stress this enough: It is a bad idea to take photos from just anywhere! There are lawyers out there who spend all of their time tracking down client photos that are being used without permission and filing lawsuits. It's worth paying for a subscription to photo services like iStock or Getty. And if you want to use an image from a photographer you've seen on Instagram, reach out for permission--and save that permission email in a file! This even extends to tweets: A recent ruling said that embedding a tweet with a photo in it can be considered copyright infringement. So again, if you want to use a photo, reach out for permission!

Peace of Mind this holiday season

Each November and December we are often socializing more, spending, on the go frequently,

eating more…and sleeping less!

If it’s hard to find time for you when you still insist on putting everything else before your own needs, you probably go into over-serving mode during the holidays. You go out of your way to make sure everything is ready, and everyone has the “best holiday ever.” Does this sound familiar?

Stop. Breath. And reset yourself. We can all find ways to shine through the noise of the busy season

Make time to be mindful

Good morning routine

Your morning routine may only be 5-10 minutes long to start, but even that will help. Use the time to sit quietly with a cup of tea, meditate, journal, walk, do a 10-minute workout, or include other activities that feed your body, mind, heart, and soul.

If you make a little time for yourself first thing, you can move through your day with more serenity, intention and intuition.

Remind yourself that being mindful is a champion choice:

I am also trying a new technique to clean my mental clutter and start the new year fresh!

I’ll share more details on my experience with rapid transformational therapy (RTT).

RTT involves hypnosis which allows access to deeply held memories in your subconscious mind that have contributed to the formation of limiting beliefs that keep you from what you want.

Hypnosis is not magic, it's science! It works by creating a burst of brain waves that are the same as when you're in the REM state of sleep. That's what allows you to access the subconscious mind.

The experience feels different for different people. Some people feel a floating sensation, some do not. Others may feel sleepy, some do not. Most people feel relaxed and at ease. What's most important is to know that how you feel isn't an indicator of how effective it is. Regardless of what it feels like--it's working, I promise.

I am already seeing and feeling the three types of change from RTT:

Immediate: you feel a massive shift right away--immediate changes in your physiology, thoughts and behaviors right in the session.

Incremental: you see consistent shifts every day, or over time.

Retroactive: you don't see the shifts right away and then one day you suddenly look back and see all of the things that are different in your life, or someone else notices a positive change in you.
