Support Poor Elderly Like Mr. Ochwo Live Happily

Being an elderly person without any formal benefits and support in rural areas of Uganda and just like in many other parts of the world, is the hardest reality old people face considering the fact that they are unable to fend for themselves and without having compassionate people around them. This is even worse among widows, widowers and those that never had partners all their lives and with health complications (loss of sight) like Mr. Ochwo. As a community based, nonprofit and nongovernmental organization, Development Alert-https://da.orug is faced with this tough realities of old people in the community we serve on a daily basis and having starting by providing basic needs to the elderly in the community even without sufficient funding or partners, we are humbly wishing for a more self-sustainable initiative that will ensure we continuously provide essential services and resources to improve the quality of life of the elderly in our communities by addressing the social, emotional, and physical needs of this vulnerable population through;
1. Providing food assistance through a monthly food bank program
2. Offer support to access medical care and health services
3. Provide decent and modest assistance for housing and utility needs
The target Beneficiaries will include;
- Extremely vulnerable and poor elderly individuals (65+ years) living in our community
-Those without decent housing
- Those struggling with food insecurity, social isolation, and limited access to healthcare
Program Details:
- Food Bank Program: monthly distribution of groceries and essentials
- Support for Medical Care: partnerships with local healthcare providers for discounted services
- Construct decent and Houses: limited financial support for housing and utility needs
Implementation Plan:
1. Community outreach and engagement
2. Needs assessment and beneficiary identification
3. Program setup and partnerships
4. Ongoing program management and evaluation
Expected Outcomes:
1. Improved food security and nutrition
2. Enhanced access to medical care and health services
3. Improved Housing conditions
4. Financial assistance for basic needs
5. Improved overall well-being and quality of life
Budget:
We are seeking $2,500 to fully support to an elderly person and this will cover:
1. Decent house construction
2. Food bank program expenses
2. Support for Medical care partnerships and services
4. Financial assistance for other basic needs
For the 5 elders currently being supported by Development Alert, we are wishing for $12,500
