That's What Good Neighbors Do

It's Fall, which means it's back to school time! But for many at-risk students stress accompanies this time as well. Many parents wonder, "how will my kids entertain themselves after school without getting involved with drugs or gangs?"
Luckily for them, organizations like After-School All-Stars LA (an after-school program that provides innovative, cutting-edge academic and enrichment programs to K-12 students) have the answer. We joined them at their recent Open House event which included complimentary books, KIND Snack giveaways, student performances, an interactive station by The Dream Builders Project and a surprise appearance by Lakers Power Forward Tarik Black!
Something magical happens when communities come together and this event was proof of that. Thanks to After-School All-Stars, these culturally diverse middle schoolers received an exciting welcome to the new school year. In case you're wondering why After-School All-Stars LA hosted an event like this the answer is simple: that's what good neighbors do. They support one another, regardless of race or socioeconomic status.
This was the first time Tarik met many of the kids, but he welcomed them with open arms like they were part of his own family. He took note of them and told them that they matter too. This encouragement brought smiles to their faces and a good-hearted feeling filled the air.
We're thankful to have shared such a joyous day with After-School All-Stars LA and the students they help. With a kickoff event like this, we are sure they will have a successful start to their school year.
