FE: Top entrepreneur skills

"My best advice is to not start in PowerPoint. Presentation tools force you to think through information linearly, and you really need to start by thinking of the whole instead of the individual lines." ~Nancy Duarte

With many parts of the world re-opening, let’s take time to polish top entrepreneur skills. As we’re building our brand and expanding our audience we often need to speak in front clients and pitch to prospects. The more confident you are in public speaking, the faster you can grow your brand and business.

Are you confident enough with public speaking to take to a stage and bring your business to the next level?

Now’s the ideal time to improve and refine soft skills that are essential for every entrepreneur. Here is the first of six skills that are important to master when you start a business and how you can learn them for free. (Drum roll...!)

1. Public speaking

Maybe there’s a Post-it note that says something like “overcome fear of public speaking." Over 77% of people have some level of anxiety toward public speaking, yet as an entrepreneur, it's something you might find yourself doing quite often.

When you're the head of a company, you're usually leading frequent presentations and meetings, pitching investors or selling to new clients, and appearing on video or audio content for your digital marketing.

Learning how to sound engaging, have professional body language, and manage your nerves is something that will help you shine through the noise in these situations.

Confession: I took a baby step with improving my public speaking with my first live chapter reading in Dublin Ireland https://youtu.be/nt-cf0gpcR0 (pre-COVID, my first day in Dublin, before my bucket list goal of seeing a U2 show there; I used music and my iPad to read from Secrets to Shine through the Noise. I’ll tell you about my next bis step next week!)

We’ll be back next blog with another key skill for entrepreneurs.
