Social pioneering Initiative in the Amazon
Date Published: 10/17/2024
After my husbands stage four cancer diagnosis in 2022 dramatically changed our lives something remarkable happened… he started to recuperate and after his surgery January 2024 We decided to take a new path and move to the Amazon Rainforest. My husband is Peruvian American and I am American. This move would reconnect him with his roots and us with nature , peace, healing, and community. Being a professional ballet teacher for over 25 years I started to offer ballet classes to the youth. Chazuta is a native community nestled between two national conservation forests making it a unique and protected community in all of Peru. There is no access to extracurricular or global art forms and it sparked the communities interest. I began to teach on my front porch and soon didn’t have enough room for all the students. My wish is to build the first ballet school in Chazuta giving the youth the opportunity to learn a universal art form building bridges and opening cultural exchanges as well as transforming a community with new opportunities. Along with the school providing state of the art facilities, I would like to offer international teachers, dance wear and supplies. After my husbands disease we decided to help others , share our passions and talents, and our lives in this extraordinary place. Thank you!
