FE: Simplified
Date Published: 8/05/2022
Last week we poured on the adrenalin with a tribute to Shark Week and our friends that helped us get up close with their fierce and beautiful apex predators! https://thewishwallfoundation.org/desideri/fe-dive-into-the-real-deal
This week, I wish to sink into a soothing simplify your life month. We are embracing it with 7 simple steps to make your life less stressful and more joyful.
With many things out of your control, life can be complicated. Still, you can take steps to make the day-to-day flow a little simpler.
Voila, a few ideas to get you started. (Inhale...exhale...)
1. Follow a Quick Morning Routine
Most of us don’t have time for an elaborate morning routine. Getting too ambitious with it can overwhelm you before your day starts. Scale it back if your ideal routine is out of reach.
• Can't make it to the gym for a workout? Take a 10-minute walk or follow along with a short yoga video.
• Don’t have time to cook breakfast? Reach for quick meals that can tide you over until lunch, like yogurt and granola, protein smoothies, or toast with almond butter and fruit.
• Can’t make meditation happen? Chill in bed for a few extra minutes and visualize your perfect day.
2. Create an On-the-Go Kit
Make travel preparations simpler by keeping a pre-packed toiletry kit under your bathroom sink. Stock your kit with travel-sized essentials like shampoo, lotion, toothpaste, cleanser, contact lens solution, and a toothbrush. Then, all you have to do is toss it in your overnight bag or suitcase and you’re good to go.
3. Build a Capsule Wardrobe
Getting dressed in the morning is a lot less stressful when your closet only contains items that make you feel — and look — good. Each piece in your wardrobe should fit your lifestyle and follow a color palette. This way, you can mix and match multiple items, so you’re not pawing through racks trying to find a specific shirt or pair of pants. Limiting your wardrobe to 50 items can also be helpful, as this may discourage impulse buys.
4. Declutter Your Inbox
It doesn’t seem to take long for inboxes to get out of control. When left unchecked, your inbox can become so clogged with promotional emails, newsletters, and reminders that you lose track of what should really warrant your attention. Stay on top of it by scheduling an inbox declutter session regularly. Take time to go through your inbox and unsubscribe from any unwanted lists and newsletters you haven’t read in months. Depending on how many daily emails you get, you may want to declutter weekly, monthly, or annually.
5. Keep Healthy Snacks Stocked
Scrounging around for snacks is the last thing many want to do on a packed day. Make things easier on yourself (and your stomach) by keeping a stash of healthy snacks in your kitchen, desk drawer, car, and anywhere else you may get peckish. Mixed nuts, dried fruit, energy bars, sliced fruit and yogurt or nut butter, vegetables and guacamole, and dark chocolate are all great options.
6. Make Lunch the Night Before
Get in the habit of preparing your lunch a day in advance. Or, get a week’s worth of lunches prepped over the weekend. This can help you save money by cutting back on the number of meals you eat out during the week. It can also free up time and energy by giving you one less thing to think about during the day.
7. Pare Down Your Skincare Routine
Look for a skincare product can be used both day and night, year-round. (And remember your subscreen.) I’d love to hear ideas on skincare you love that flows from day to night, in any season.
