Buy Shoes For Needy Students In Mississippi Delta

Date Published: 2/20/2017

My name is Patrick Perry and I am asking for assistance in helping me assist needy students here in the Mississippi Delta. The purpose of this campaign (which is in it's 3rd year) is to supply needy students in Sunflower County, Mississippi, with shoes. This campaign was inspired by a trip to Memphis in 2015 in which I overheard a conversation a mother who could not afford shoes for her son. This inspired me to provide a way for these parents to make sure their children have what is needed to successfully start the school year. The back to school season can be one of the of the most stressful for parents here in the Mississippi Delta which is arguably the most impoverished area in the United States. Many residents in this area cannot afford the basic necessities their children need for school (ex. school supplies, uniforms, clothes, shoes). Experiencing this as a child, I have a desire to make a difference in the lives of these children.

My campaign alleviates one of these needs for a select number of Delta families in time for the start of the school year. My goal each year is to raise at least $5000 to purchase at least 100 pairs of shoes from various outlets and off price retailers (such as Ross). The funds raised will used to purchase shoes and socks during the upcoming back to school season. A small portion of the funds will offset operating costs (ex. pickup and delivery of items).

The shoes will be distributed at a local church in conjunction with their annual school supplies giveaway.

If you can make my wish come true, it would surely be appreciated. Thank you for your time
