Shelter Animals and Recovering Addicts

My wish is to match shelter animals and recovery facilities that house those in recovery, and those individuals will then be allowed to adopt a shelter animal upon leaving the recovery facility in order to positively impact their recovery. My wish was birthed from the tragic loss of my person, my Love, Preston, on June 28th, 2023 due to meth toxicity. In February 2023, Preston adopted and registered Sawyer, his beautiful dog, as an Emotional Support Dog to aid in his recovery, as he was recently released from a re-entry facility, was in a town far from his home, and was living alone. He knew that Sawyer's companionship would assist in his maintaining sobriety. When Sawyer ran away in April, Preston's using spiraled until he lost everything! He called me on April 27th to come and help him piece his life back together. I brought him home that day and began looking for Sawyer on "lost and found" sites across Facebook. In early June, I found Sawyer! When I told Preston, he did not mention going to get him. He did not think that a dog as big as Sawyer would be allowed in our apartment complex. So, when I text him on June 8th, days before his birthday, to say I had a surprise for him, he thought it was Sawyer. I wish it was! I had brought Preston's mother up from his hometown for his birthday weekend and events during that weekend lead to his relapse. 18 days later he was gone! I KNOW that had I gone and gotten Sawyer rather than his mom that Preston would be here today! He knew Sawyer relied on him to stay sober, and he was Preston's constant companion who did not ever judge him for his struggles! Research shows that those in recovery do better when they have an Emotional Support Animal or a Therapy Animal! So, my wish is to honor Preston's life and his legacy by helping others the way that he would want! AND it helps the animals and shelters too! My plan is to not only supply the animals, but to have enough monetary resources to provide vet care and food for the first six months after an individual in recovery exits the recovery facility out into the world on their own. Additionally, I want to have shelter staff and/or volunteers check in on the animals to ensure that they are being well taken care of. My Love, Preston, would be over the moon about his endeavor which I am calling "Guardians of Recovery". Please help me to impact the lives of those who are struggling to start over and sweet animals that are in shelters!
