Over 80% of the population in Tororo District lack access to clean water, some communities spend over 10 hours to collect a 20 Litres Container of water and also fetch water from unprotected swamps, springs, ponds, rivers and traditional hand dug wells exposing them to various water associated diseases https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qgMvhKUrZRc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GX3yN5luDq8.
In addition, the open and unsafe water sources which the communities have resorted to are being shared with animals and during rainy seasons, the water logging and flooding often resulted into contamination of available open water sources, leading to rampant outbreak of waterborne diseases during thus negatively affected the lives of people in the area. During dry seasons, the areas quickly dries up causing huge water and as a result, making mainly women and girls to walk very long distances in search for clean and safe water; carrying heavy water containers which are harmful to their lives and worsening their vulnerability in the community.
