Fodder Security
Date Published:
My name is Kennedy, I come from Kenya a town called Limuru and a village called Ndeiya. I am a passionate small scale dairy farmer and at the moment I have a heard of 8 cows of which am milking 5 with an average daily sale of 65 liters of milk to my local cooperative. My village (Ndeiya) is semi arid and so many farmers like me straggle with fodder for our cows especially during the dry season, it is with this in mind that I wish for boreholes to be sunk in my village and this will supply enough water to irrigate our farms during this season and will ensure fodder security as this is a major hindrance to our potential. My farm can support more than 20 herds of cattle but I am limited by fodder availability. Milk has ready market and we are not even meeting the demand due to this limitation.
With this background here's my wish, funding to sink boreholes and make them fully functional and to purchase high breed heifers with the aim of more production. This will have a huge impact in my society and translate to financial security for families that they will be able to educate their children and cater for their family needs
