Sun Protection for Children and Adults with Albinism in Malawi

Date Published: 7/29/2024

In Malawi, people with albinism face significant challenges and are often subjected to discrimination and persecution. Without proper protective measures, they are at high risk of skin cancer and other health problems due to their sensitivity to the sun.
Many individuals with albinism in Malawi lack access to essential protective gear, such as sunglasses, sunscreen, long-sleeved clothing, and hats, which can help reduce the risk of health problems associated with sun exposure. These items are often too expensive for families to purchase, and there is limited awareness and support for people with albinism in the community.
We are seeking support to provide protective gear to children and adults with albinism in Malawi, with the goal of improving their health and well-being, and raising awareness of their needs in the community.
