Keyboards and Drums for my marginalized Children

Date Published:

keyboards and drums for our 39 children to use for learning and practice during our after-school, weekend, and holiday music lessons, so that they don't have to keep improvising with plastic Jerrycans! These children, majority living in single-mother homes in the slums of Soroti city in Teso sub-region, Eastern Uganda, often drop out of school to help their mothers to chase for a living, often through begging on the streets, hawking, and roadside selling. Others become pickpockets, and get involved in drug and substance abuse, eventually ending up as streets kids. With our music program, we target these children, and provide them with opportunities to develop their talents in creative arts, including music, photography, visual arts, etc. They also get to learn basic literacy skills through our read program ,a dn get access to digital gadgets. All of these rotate around the musical component. But we currently only have 11 ukuleles, whcih they have to share during learning and practice. Despite interest in Kayboard and drums from these children, we are unable to provide them with practical lessons on those, as we lack the instruments. Our wish is to have them!
