My little brother....One of the Good Guys
Date Published:
Hello. My name is Deb, and I am writing about my brother, Bill. First of all, thank you for all you do to help so many people! My little brother is 61 and has been battling Stage 4 Metastasized Prostate Cancer for a year. They have exhausted all treatments to try to slow this down, but no luck. And because he has Epilepsy as well, he is not being offered any trials. Bill has had a very rough life from childhood on. We grew up in a tumultuous, broken household. His seizures were grand mal and caused numerous falls and hits to the head. Over the years, his medication caused memory and concentration issues. Bill married 25 years ago and has two children, one of which is special needs. He has worked extremely hard in the factory fields his entire life, often taking on second jobs to make ends meet. He hasn't been on a vacation for over 20 years. And I have never known someone to have such bad luck in life with cars and his home--always breaking down. And now this devastating news that he has such a short time left. But more than anything, I would like you to know that my brother has never, ever complained. He has always seen life as a blessing and every day a gift. He has always helped his family, friends, neighbors, and even strangers if they needed it. Just recently, however, he has hit a wall...he is absolutely defeated. I would love so much to be able to take him on a long weekend trip to see Vegas (on his bucket list) or the ocean---somewhere like Gulf Shores. We could reminisce about our childhood, and I could help him do some writing. I am a single grandma on disability for an autoimmune issue, so my income is very limited. This may be way too much to ask. But if there is anything your organization could do to help me give this to my little brother, it would be appreciated more than you know. Thank you for your time, your consideration, and again--for all you do! Sincerely, Deb Lowell
