GRACE: Giving Rural Access to Clean Environment

Date Published: 1/21/2025

We at Kansarmen SL Foundation wish to bring clean, accessible water to the rural community of Piyarapanduwa village in Badulla District, Sri Lanka. This small, underprivileged village of about 100 people, primarily Tamil estate laborers, faces severe water scarcity. Every day, women and children walk miles to fetch water from a natural spring in the hills, enduring fatigue, stress, and physical danger. These journeys expose them to attacks from wild animals such as wild boars and snakes, as well as the threat of sexual harassment and abuse when they are vulnerable, collecting or bathing in open water sources.

The children, too, must carry this burden, often fetching water after school or missing school entirely to help their families. Even the nearby school, Piyarapanduwa Vidyalaya, with 75 students, lacks a proper water supply, adding to the hardships faced by this already struggling community.

We need to provide them with a safe, easily accessible water supply system, but we are currently unable to raise the necessary funds of USD10,000. While Kansarmen SL Foundation has completed over 310 projects like this across Sri Lanka, we still have more than 200 other underprivileged communities waiting for support. We wish to have the needed fundings to achieve the communities wish of change the lives of these villagers, providing them the basic human right of clean water.

Your support could bring relief to this community, restore dignity to their daily lives, and provide a safer environment for these women, children, and families. Please help us make this wish come true.
