CROCHETING DREAMS, WEAVING BRIGHTER FUTURES

At KIBWA Women Self-Help Group, we believe that every woman deserves the opportunity to earn a sustainable income, support her family, and live with dignity. Unfortunately, many vulnerable women and young mothers in our community face unemployment, limited access to vocational skills, and financial hardship. These challenges often leave them dependent on others and unable to meet the basic needs of their families.
Our wish is to change this reality by implementing Crocheting Dreams: Weaving Brighter Futures, a six-month skills development and livelihood project that will empower 200 vulnerable women and young mothers through practical crocheting training. Participants will learn to produce high-quality handmade shoes and bags while also gaining entrepreneurship, financial literacy, business management, customer care, and marketing skills. By the end of the project, they will have the knowledge and confidence to establish small businesses, generate sustainable incomes, and improve their households' wellbeing.
We envision a safe, supportive, and inspiring learning environment where women encourage one another, develop valuable vocational skills, and build lasting networks of cooperation. Through regular training sessions, practical demonstrations, mentorship, and hands-on production, participants will transform their creativity into marketable products that can compete in local markets. Beyond earning an income, they will gain confidence, independence, and hope for a brighter future.
However, this vision cannot become a reality without support. We are seeking assistance to purchase crochet hooks, yarn, shoe soles, bag accessories, sewing materials, scissors, measuring tapes, packaging materials, training manuals, stationery, storage supplies, and other essential equipment needed for effective training. Support will also help facilitate training sessions, participant mentorship, monitoring, and community outreach throughout the six-month implementation period.
Project Objectives

- To equip participants with entrepreneurship, business management, marketing, and customer care skills to establish sustainable small businesses.
- To strengthen financial literacy by teaching budgeting, saving, pricing, record-keeping, and responsible income management.
- To increase household incomes and improve economic independence through the production and sale of handmade crochet products.
- To encourage teamwork, peer learning, and women's support groups that promote long-term collaboration and community development.
- To connect participants with local markets and potential buyers to improve the sustainability of their businesses.
- To build participants' confidence, leadership, creativity, and decision-making abilities through practical training and mentorship.
- To promote community compassion by donating selected handmade shoes and bags to vulnerable individuals and families as part of the project's social impact activities.
The expected impact extends far beyond the 200 women who will directly participate. Their families will benefit from increased household income, children will have better access to education and basic necessities, and the wider community will gain from stronger local enterprises, reduced poverty, and increased economic participation by women.
