GARMENT POWER

Women who can provide for their basic needs in a poverty stricken town is a wish I seek to develop. Two years ago an organization helped me train 10 teen moms who did not want to go to high school learn basic tailoring skills for six months. upon completion we went on our own and created a clothing shop, where we sell fabric items like African print bags, aprons, purses and school uniforms which have been donated to poor children in 3 local schools. 6 of the ladies that were trained found greener pastures and 4 are still working to make ends meet. 3 mothers and 3 teens have requested if they can train on garment making and would like financial assistance in training them for one year in tailoring. With the skills they will be able to be future entrepreneurs, provide for their families and donate uniforms to the underprivileged in the slums. in addition the other 4 mothers request to learn fashion design since they have basic skills in tailoring. During their training they will also have sessions on life skills for better quality of life. The overall budget for training, rent and sewing materials is 2,535 US dollars. Another wish is to help 3 local schools with a meal a day for the next three months of this academic year. the students come from poverty stricken families. 24 bags of porridge flour each 90kgs each totaling 2,535 US dollars is the worth for 3 months.
