Rural Women’s Initiative for Peace and Development is a community-based organization which was formed and registered with Kole District Local Government. Started by a group of nine women to discuss and develop ideas for dealing with social and economic hardships women and less fortunate children are facing in Kole district, located in the Northern part of Uganda.
Our organization is still a small community-based organization with potential of developing into a bigger and more promising organization in fighting poverty among women and girls within Kole District. It is more than ready to implement any project and programs which can promote sustainable livelihoods and eliminate dependency.
Most of the people in Kole district are poor people, subsisting well below the poverty line of US$ 1.90 per day. These are the most marginalized within the already marginal communities. Most of the people here depend on subsistence agriculture and often lack access to education, a decent home, basic health services and clean water; and the situation is getting worse as a result of climate change; and poverty in our district and globally rises up due to disruption of COVID-19.
Right now, our organization is planning to start an Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) center, early next year 2025, to provide pre-school education for 80 poorest children of 3 to 5 years old selected from poorest families. This project is planned to be implemented in Akaidebe Village, Opeta Parish, Aboke Sub-County, Kole District, located in Northern part of Uganda to provide equal child rights for education of poor and rich families.
Early Childhood is the most rapid period of development in a human life. The ultimate goal of Early Childhood Development Education programs is to improve young children’s capacity to develop and learn. A child who is ready for school has a combination of characteristics. He or she is socially and emotionally healthy, confident and friendly; has good peer relationships; tackles challenging tasks and persistence with them, has good language skills and communicates well; and listens to instruction and is attentive. ECDE programs change the development trajectory of children by the time they enter school. A child who is ready for a school has less chances of repeating a grade, or being a school dropout.
Right now, we need teaching materials and construction of two classroom blocks as well as equipping classrooms with furniture.
