LIBERATIONAL FARMING

Date Published: 7/06/2023

I have been carrying out small-scale farming as part of my passion with the hope that I will be learning in the process and one day I will be a large-scale farmer running a stable, sustainable and profitable business of farming although I am professionally a medical doctor.
I am currently in red onion, beans and corn farming which I do in a rotation in 6 acres farm and do crop rotations in different seasons according to the market or learning opportunities. I am currently exploring an opportunity to raise chicken layers as I have seen a potential market for it, as a part of the learning process I have started with 200 birds and if I master the art I am planning to add to 1500 birds with the goal of collecting 1200 eggs per days, which will be equivalent to 250$ per day

During my trials, and learning I have observed that, the families in the surrounding communities depend on farming activities to get employments so that they can make a living, they have their own small farms with poor equipment and poor knowledge and skills, they also look for jobs in other bigger farming projects to make instant money that helps them to meet their daily needs, especially for the low seasons when they do not have incomes from their own small farms. Most of these people seeking employments are women, especially young mothers.

According to my observation, there is unlimited potential and opportunities in this particular area because of two main reasons: 1. there is a permanent water source (river), namely Pangani River flowing from NYUMBA YA MUNGU hydroelectric dam to the Indian Ocean, 2. There is fertile land with a very small population of less than 1000 people locally, 3. Accessibility, its an area that is very easy to reach all seasons of the year which is important for any product to reach the marketplace from the farm

The challenges: 1. Inadequate agronomic skills and knowledge 2. Poor capital, which also leads to poor farming tools and technology

MY WISH:
I wish that I expand my project to 50 Acres of farming, so I can make 20 permanent employments and 300 temporary employments,
I wish that I can expand my layers bird project to 3500 birds so I can produce 3200 eggs per day which will be worth 700$ sales per day and will make 28 permanent employments directly.

NEEDED TO FULFILL MY WISH:
25 Acres land (i already own 15) @ 4000$
Irrigation system (water pump and pipe) @ 6500$
chicken keeping facility construction material @ 8500$
Farming machine(tractor) @45000$
Agronomics consultation fees @5800$

If this wish comes true, or is granted it will positively influence the lives of more than 1000 people directly and indirectly
