Start Talking
Date Published: 4/19/2017
It's sexual assault awareness month. There has been quite a lot of talk about sexual assault in the past year. First we have the case of Stanford swimmer Brock Turner, followed by allegations against Robert Ailes and Bill O'Rielly.
We constantly hear the sad excuse that "he's a good kid, this was a one time mistake." With no real apology or remorse following. Or my favorite "she's accusing me of things because I have money." We have to stop looking at the victims as the persecutors and the persecutors as the victims. The victims are already hurt. We shouldn't end up silencing them.
My wish is for us to listen to a person who has been sexually assaulted or someone affected by sexual assault. Comfort them and together help raise awareness. Let them know that they won't be silenced anymore.
Peace and Love,
