Future Entrepreneurs:Natural Keys to Healthy Aging
Date Published: 10/26/2017
"And if I asked you to name all the things that you love, how long would it take to name yourself?"
Today I invoke this well-known quote from Instagram for healthy perspective.
I have written about self-care before, and today we get deliciously specific.
I met Carol Stanley (https://twitter.com/carolee1) after a sail in Marina del Rey at the yacht club there and we discussed inspiration, art and travels. I had just finished writing Secrets to Shine Through the Noise, and was making steady progress on my travel thriller series. I am a great fan of Carol’s painted totes, and have given them as gifts for a year – and I have a few of my own based on favorite sailing photos, and my book series. I understand that as artists we may find inspiration in many places. (Stay tuned for your chance to win one of Carol’s beautiful and practical totes!)
As we are entrepreneurs in action, it’s also important to try many things, and then assess what is working, and what you are drawn to create while working on other practical things in life. Yes we all have to pay the bills somehow. Carol has been very supportive with the release of my first book. (She even flew in for my LA book launch - thank you so much!) Carol started to drift away from making totes because of the large investment of time, finding a bag that works well as a canvas, and then getting a fair price for the time spent. I often speak of valuing your own time and paying yourself what you’re worth, so that’s illustrated well here.
Every time I bring wine to a dinner party in one of her totes, guests comment on how charming they are. I do believe there is a winery, yacht club or BYOB spot that would do very well carrying Carol’s totes! The timing has not been right, and Carol was in touch with her intuition that told her it was time to do something else. Brava, Carol! I am delighted to share snippets from her book, Feel Better Every Day: Natural Keys to Healthy Aging [http://a.co/8Y7LHwq – and it’s included as part of Kindle Unlimited].
I recently caught up with Carol to cover her new release and venture.
My favorite quote: “Don’t worry about labels…as most of what you eat should not have labels.â€
Keep reading to put this in practice.
Carol: There are many books on diet and healthy living on the market today. Many of these books tout perfect rules for good health and organized diets. Feel Better Every Day is about what I have learned throughout the years and successfully practice daily. There is no magic bullet in life to turn back the clock. Staying healthy is a way to take baby steps each day to a healthier you.
It is all about slow changes and take charge of your health and well-being. We live a healthy life style with no hard and fast rules. I don’t want to lecture—just be a cheerleader.
The most important thing about the book is that it is not just a statement here and there. It takes a long time to develop a new habit and get rid of an old one. The book is a reference source for ideas to stay healthy as you age
Everything but the Kitchen Sink Soup
Soup is on all year long in our home. There is always soup in the fridge or freezer for lunches when we are home. This particular soup is empowered with spices and herbs that support a healthy digestive system, heart, vision and brain. The recipe is easy to follow as you can change or add anything you want.
Ingredients:
3 quarts of water
3 tablespoons of avocado oil or grapeseed oil
2 cups each of chopped onions, celery, spinach, carrots and zucchini
4 cups of your favorite beans—black, white northern or mixed
5. 3 tablespoons each of curry powder, turmeric, ginger, garlic powder, coriander, fennel
6. 1 cup of freshly chopped parsley or cilantro
Directions:
1. Boil water or you can use half organic chicken broth
2. Add the beans and cook until tender
3. Add the oil
4. Add all the veggies and spices and cook until tender
5. Add salt and pepper to taste
Note: Add more veggies, spices or even chicken to the soup.
After the soup cools put it in serving size containers and freeze for future meals. If you like a more broth soup, add less beans and veggies.
