Giving Hope by Restoring Lives

My name is Cameron Donkin. I work alongside Charl Kotzé and we are in charge of donations and some PR work at a Christian Non-Profit Organization known as The Ark KZN in Cliffdale. We work under an amazing General Manager – George Pretorius who has completely turned The Ark KZN around from where it used to be to where it is now which is absolutely phenomenal.

We have grown in size drastically by taking in more residents and have quite a large list of guys waiting to come in as they have nowhere else to go due to certain circumstances, either losing their homes from the ripple effect of the looting, covid19 and now with the cost of living skyrocketing. Some have even lost their families in floods and the recent forces (storms) far beyond our control.

The Ark KZN is doing all we can to assist as many people as possible but can only do that with the help of sponsors, donations and the caring public but first and foremost, God in whom we place our trust. From that we are also helping our local community in the area and supplying them with whatever we are able to, being food, clothing and blankets and so on.

The guys here have many different skills ranging from qualified Chefs to electricians and plumbers as well as IT technicians, artists, carpenters, mechanics and more, including our new veggie gardeners maintaining the new grow tunnels we have for sustainable living (still in the process of getting it on the go).

What sets us apart from other ministries and the like is how The Ark KZN invests in each resident and does not just simply provide food and shelter. Residents from all walks of life attend daily devotions, church twice a week and various life skills and related programs on-site. The result of this on-going spiritual and cared approach is clearly seen in the personal development of each individual where the old self and previous lifestyle is so far removed from the present.

Recover, Restore and Rebuild define an inherent mission statement which remains S.M.A.R.T. - Sustainable, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Targetable.

We have two major projects on the go. The first one is building a new dormitory to be able to increase our capacity in order to give destitute men a home. The other project is the building of a new ablution block as our current one is too small for the number of men (residents) staying here. We will need a few “donkeys” to heat up our water by fire in order to try cut electricity costs as our funds are limited.

We have also recently started a small home for women and their children that are destitute or need a safe place to stay.

With over 130 men, our washing machine has just packed up so we are pleading with you for any help with a donation for a new commercial or industrial washing machine or maybe a donation of funds to put towards a washing machine.
