A Chance to Build, Create and Empower Other Women
My wish is to receive the support and resources I need to build a sustainable livelihood through my writing, digital work and women's empowerment platform, while creating something that can eventually help other women who are struggling to find their own path forward.
My name is Abigail, and I am a young Nigerian woman with a background in Communication Arts and several years of experience in administration, customer service and communications. I have always been someone who finds meaning in helping people, listening to their stories and using my words to encourage them.
Over the years, I have dreamed of creating something of my own; something that would not only provide me with an income, but would also become a safe and encouraging space for women.
That dream became Mama's Haven.
Mama's Haven is a women's platform I created to encourage women to heal, grow, embrace their femininity, develop confidence and recognise their worth. Through writing, conversations, digital content and my mental-health-focused work, I hope to remind women that difficult circumstances do not have to be the end of their story.
But building something meaningful from Nigeria with very limited resources has been difficult.
I currently have many of the skills, ideas and determination I need, but I lack some of the basic resources that would allow me to turn those skills into a sustainable source of income. I am trying to build a future through writing, digital content, virtual assistance and entrepreneurship, rather than remaining dependent on circumstances that I have little control over.
So my wish is not simply to be given money and walk away.
My wish is for someone to give me the opportunity to build.
I would be deeply grateful for support towards the equipment, digital tools, professional development and initial resources I need to establish a reliable income from my skills and grow Mama's Haven into something sustainable.
A laptop and the right digital resources, for example, would make an enormous difference to the kind of work I can undertake. At present, I do much of what I do through a mobile phone. With better equipment and the opportunity to develop my skills further, I would be able to take on more writing and administrative work, create better content, develop digital products and build a stronger foundation for my business.
But there is another reason this wish matters so much to me.
I know I am not the only woman who feels trapped by limited opportunities.
There are countless women with ideas, abilities and dreams who simply need someone to believe in them long enough for them to get started.
If I am given the opportunity to establish myself, I want to use what I build to create opportunities for other women too, through encouraging content, practical resources, conversations around women's wellbeing, digital skills and eventually programmes that help women become more confident and economically independent.
I am not asking someone to rescue me from my life.
I am asking for a hand up that could help me build a life I can sustain with my own hands.
I believe that sometimes one opportunity can change the direction of an entire life. And sometimes the person who receives that opportunity can eventually become the person who gives it to someone else.
That is my wish.
I hope someone will believe in the woman I am becoming, give me the opportunity to build, and help me turn a small beginning into something that can reach many more women.
