The Wish:
Kahokya Foundation for Rural Women’s Development Association (KAFFORWODA), established in 2018 in Kahokya, Kasese District, Western Uganda, is a women-led community initiative dedicated to improving the economic well-being of rural women. Our women currently survive through brick-making, a physically demanding, low-income, and hazardous activity that exposes them to long-term health risks such as back injuries, respiratory problems, and extreme fatigue.
Despite their hard work, these women remain trapped in poverty due to the low returns from brick production and lack of alternative livelihood opportunities. KAFFORWODA seeks to transform this situation by establishing a community-based piggery farming project that will enable women to transition from brick-making into a more sustainable, profitable, and dignified livelihood.
With support from the Wishwall Foundation, we wish to establish a small-scale but scalable piggery enterprise that will include construction of pig shelters, procurement of improved pig breeds, training in animal husbandry, veterinary support, and establishment of a revolving income system managed by the women themselves.
This initiative will directly benefit women in Kahokya by:
Increasing household incomes through pig sales and breeding
Reducing dependence on physically harmful brick-making labor
Improving food security through access to livestock products
Building skills in modern, climate-resilient agribusiness
Strengthening women’s economic independence and leadership
We envision a future where women in Kahokya are no longer forced into dangerous manual labor for survival but are instead empowered as small-scale agripreneurs contributing to household welfare and community development.
KAFFORWODA respectfully seeks partnership and funding support from Wishwall Foundation to turn this vision into reality and create lasting change for rural women in Kasese District.
