Finding My Voice
Date Published: 10/12/2016
We always feel so honored when people from around the world reach out to us and open their hearts to us. This week, we will be featuring a story from a beautiful woman both inside & out who has found a way to express herself through her fashion & singing. We are proud of the work she has done and can’t wait to see what she does next. Everyone, please meet Sasha Frank…
Most of the rumors about the struggles of middle children are all true.
For a long time, I struggled to fit in. I never really fit in anywhere in school. I wasn’t a part of the “in crowd.†I was not on any sports team. I wasn’t the bookworm. I wasn’t exiled into the student body black list. I didn’t fit anywhere. Even when I sat with my group of friends, I never felt like I belonged. As a kid you begin to ask yourself, “What is wrong with me? Am I just a tag along? Am I just wasted space?â€
For whatever reason, I still allowed my voice to be silenced in the shadows of, not just my sisters, but now my peers. I allowed my voice to get smaller and smaller. I had been drawn to fashion very early on; it was a form of self-expression. It was my way of getting my voice heard.
For me, style was a way to express my personality without having to say a word.
In elementary school, I created a small business where I sold candy to the neighborhood kids and to my peers at school. I reinvested into my company (haha!) And every two weeks, I purchased new clothes with my income.
Style, music and writing helped me find my voice!
