Access to Justice for Children - Child Protection Force Sri Lanka
Date Published:
In Sri Lanka, the pursuit of justice for crimes against children is a prolonged and agonizing journey, lasting over 15 years on average. Tragically, during this protracted legal process, child survivors endure multiple levels of secondary victimization, inflicting severe mental and sometimes physical trauma upon them once again. Compounding the injustice, the accused often evades consequences, benefiting from the manipulation or neglect of evidence at various stages of the legal proceedings. Shockingly, there is an absence of state-sponsored advocacy support for these vulnerable victims throughout this process.
Amidst this distressing reality, Child Protection Force has been working with Child and Women Survivors of Crime providing them with not only Legal Representation but a continuing holistic victim advocacy service. Comprising a dedicated team of only six employees, our organization is on a mission to support survivors of crime and combat the pervasive issue of secondary victimization within the legal system. With a commitment to making a tangible impact, we handle a minimum of 30 cases each month. Our approach involves trauma-informed sensitive interview methods, providing access to justice through legal representation, offering individual psychological assistance, and ensuring safe housing for both child and women survivors of crime.
In the face of systemic shortcomings, Child Protection Force stands as a steadfast advocate, working tirelessly to reduce the prolonged suffering of child survivors and bring about meaningful change in the pursuit of justice.
