FE: Rays of Hope
Date Published: 2/06/2020
“I find hope in the darkest of days and focus in the brightest. I do not judge the universe.â€~Dalai Lama
Today is a dark day for many Americans, so I wish to share some rays of hope. (The Senate did not allow witnesses in the Trump impeachment trial and then dismissed the allegations in a heartbeat. America is more divided than ever.)
1) Creative solutions + clay koalas
Let's unite in celebrating compassionate news: A 6-year-old boy wishing to help animals hurt in the Australian bushfires has raised almost $300,000 thanks to his little clay koalas.
Owen Colley learned about the devastating fires from his dad, Simon Colley, who is from Australia.
"This all stems from Owen wanting to travel to Australia and hearing that there were fires, and that houses were being destroyed, and a lot of animals had been hurt and displaced." Simon Colley said in an interview with weather.com. "And we came up with this project as a way for him to feel like he could do something."
2) The fight for crash systems warnings
U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein is calling for federal rules that crash-warning systems be required on commercial helicopters like the one that crashed in foggy weather last month outside Los Angeles, killing Kobe Bryant and eight other people. (My tribute ICYMI

The helicopter carrying Bryant and the others did not have a device called the Terrain Awareness and Warning System that signals when an aircraft is in danger of hitting ground.
