I am regular volunteer at the Atlantic City Rescue Mission located in Atlantic City, NJ. AC Rescue Mission not only feeds the homeless but also provides shelter and life skills to members of the local community. About the Atlantic City Rescue Mission

Atlantic City Rescue Mission has become the largest shelter providing relief for the homeless in southern New Jersey through the generous donations of individuals. Their support has allowed this ministry to build comprehensive services to help those in need. In fact, over nine surrounding county government and state run support centers rely on Mission resources to assist them in effectively deal with the problems ravaging the community. Because of our Christian faith, we turn no one away. Today we offer Life Restoration Services, Education and Career Training and Permanent Housing Placement. For 50 years we have been helping people get back on their feet. There is an end to homelessness, and it’s all right here.

People who have no home receive practical help, counseling, and Christian compassion. Who do we help?

Poor and homeless men, women, and families in southern New Jersey

Deinstitutionalized mentally ill with no support

Individuals addicted to alcohol, drugs, and gambling

Elderly or disabled with no family and little income



How do we help them?

3-Meals a day in our dining hall

Christian Counseling

Safe shelter for men, women, and single mothers with children

18-month residential homeless recovery (Overcomers Program)

120-day Work Readiness Program

Individual and group counseling

Two chapel services each day

Daily Bible studies

On-site Detox and Behavioral Health collaborative care programs

Job placement program, in partnership with local businesses

Assistance in finding permanent housing

Classes for our residents in life skills, parenting, GED/Literacy

Career Training

Transitional housing (Barnabas House) Cape May County and our women's facility in Atlantic County

Permanent housing placement

On-site medical clinic - MissionCare part of the AtlantiCare network in association with Atlantic City Rescue Mission

How many people do we help?

Serving about 720 meals per day

Housing 212 men, 78 women, and 13 families each night

Provide an average of about 790 emergency food baskets each month to local families in crisis

Over 40,000 individuals asisted in the last 10 years

More than 780 moms and 1,500 children in crisses in just the last 10 years alone

How is the Mission financed?

The Atlantic City Rescue Mission is not a government agency. We are a private nonprofit Christian organization supported mainly through donations from individual people, businesses, and organizations in the community who care about the poor and homeless.



 



Who actually helps the people who come to the Mission?

The Mission employs full- and part-time paid staff and utilizes the talents of many generous volunteers.
