My Story

Ever since I was little all I ever wanted was a family of my own - 3 children ( thatâ€™s the exact number I had in my mind). I got married in 1999. Life was good. Everything was fine but I just couldnâ€™t conceive. We went to so many doctors,Â underwent various procedures that failed. I was desperate but nothing seemed to work. One day I was introduced to Dr Nandita Palshetkar, a pioneer in IVF treatment. And then started the painful process. I call it painful because I was one of those who would bawl at the sight of a needle. And here I had to take injections every day, twice at times. The procedure was a success and I tested positive after 9 years of trying to conceive (for the first time testing positive was considered something good). I prayed and prayed for a girl. Everyone would laugh at me saying why not a boy but I was adamant. I had gone for a routine check-up and they discovered that the cord was wrapped very tightly around the babyâ€™s neck. I was admitted right away with surgery scheduled in the morning. That night the sky was so clear with so many stars shining and I immediately told my husband that letâ€™s call our daughter â€œTaraâ€. I remember my father walking in early morning and telling me â€œ dekh na ladki hi hogiâ€. Three hours later my Tara was born. That was the most precious and will always be the single most happiest moment of my life. I was told later that when they had taken Tara outside to meet my family, they had never seen a family so joyous after a birth of a girl. She is the brightest light of my life and I will never regret going through all the pain that I went through just to have her in my life.

#Water ForThe People Project Funded by The WishWall Foundation 2024. #AWishGrantedInProgress The rural population of Muwanga in kiboga district Uganda draws their water from unprotected springs or swamps located from 300 to 600 meters (328 to 656 yards) from the villages or from hand-dug wells, locally known as (bidiba). The (bidiba) are primitive wells with an average depth of about six meters and with a diameter about the size of a large truck tire and uncovered at the top. The water collected from swamps (bidiba) is used for bathing, washing clothes, cooking and drinking, also shared, by cows, goats, hens and dogs Unfortunately, the shared use of swamps, (bidiba),springs for washing laundry, bathing and cooking is unsanitary and promotes a number of health problems. According to 2021 clinical data/information obtained from mama Tendo who owns a local clinic here in Kigoma Village most of the sick patients she treats suffer from diarrhea, typhoid, dysentery and intestinal stomach aches. The WishwallFoundation is Funding Muwanga Development Association a local organisation to establish a modren Well to provide safe-clean water the people of kiboga in Uganda. The president of Muwanga Development Association said “ the local people here have contracted diseases from these dirty water sources for many years” but now friends from The WishwallFoundation have done them good” A BIG THANK YOU.

In any sustainable tree planting exercise, involving children is important. Our wonderful teachers like Moses all instruct classes AND lead extracurricular activities. Mr. Moses supports the Catering Club and started the school farm that teaches the girls how to grow food. In the past few weeks, we have embarked on a renewed health project with the WishWall Foundation to support good health and well-being. We have made substantial progress with renovating the primary health care center. As a result of the tireless work of skilled labor, we have completed the flooring, replaced wooden window outlets with Aluminium windows, and fixed leakages on the roof. Also, we are happy to commence the reconstruction of the toilet facility, which will be completed in a few weeks. At the end of the toilet construction, we shall begin the final phase of painting and donating drugs and some medical equipment to the facility.

Title: Meet Prinicipal Claris Madame Claris played soccer with KGSA back in the early 2000s before it evolved into a free high school for girls. She was an amazing goalkeeper and still enjoys playing ⚽️ with her students. Claris has been teaching math and geography for over ten years at the Kibera Girls Soccer Academy and leads the school as Principal. She encourages the girls to do their best and keeps in touch with them after they graduate. 🙌🏽 Thank you Madame Claris for your years of leadership and dedication to girls’ education in Kenya!

Adebisi shared the challenges they have been facing for over four years at the hospital. she highlighted challenges which include leaking roofs, the absence of perimeter fencing, and shortage of rooms for patients. She has also expressed gratitude to the WishWall Foundation and iRead To Live Initiative for their support and ongoing work, including the total concrete flooring and installation of brand-new iron doors.

Last year, the Executive Director of iRead To Live Initiatve, Jacob Sule accompanied by Ayisat Abiona , Program Manager of iRead visited some schools in Osun State Nigeria as part of their intervention for literacy & efforts to transforming education in Nigeria. They were displeased by what they saw and reached out to their partners, the WishWall Foundation for support. The Founder of WishWall Foundation, Ms Simonetta Lein graciously approved funding for the renovation of the library. iRead Initiative hired skilled labors for the reconstruction of the external Walls , painters to paint the facility and artisans to build new books shelves, and tables. Today... From all of us at iRead, we are super excited and grateful to the WishWall Foundation to be able to do this, support literacy and transform education in Osun State Nigeria. Today is Equal Pay Day! Sixty years after it became illegal to pay men more than women for similar work, we’re still playing catch up in the USA. Wishwall believes that women deserve equal pay for equal work! It’s disappointing that women are still paid less than men across all industries. We are proud to partner with the Kibera Girls Soccer Academy to promote gender equality in education and hope that these girls will receive equitable pay when they enter the workforce in Kenya after graduating.

Towering over the tin roof homes in Kibera, the new dormitory at the Kibera Girls Soccer Academy (KGSA) is the pride of the Makina neighborhood. This state of the art three story facility has a rooftop soccer field that just recently began providing a safe place for girls to study, eat, sleep (and dream). KGSA is a free, holistic high school that serves 130 girls every year located in the largest informal settlement – the largest slum – in Africa. Almost a million people live in a region the size of New York City’s Central Park with no running water, bathrooms or reliable electricity in their homes. This is where Kenya’s first free high school for girls (KGSA) was established. @kgsafoundation @simonettalein

While the educational gender gap has been decreasing in Sub-Saharan Africa, there’s still room for improvement. The World Economic Forum in 2022, identified that amount of girls in lower and upper secondary levels is not at the same rate as their male peers. When one girl unlocks her power to make different choices, she inspires others to do so too. She starts a ripple effect that impacts her family, her community, her country and the world. That's the Girl Effect. At the Kibera Girls Soccer Academy in Kenya, the #girleffect is in full effect! When you invest in a girl's education, you are giving her the opportunity to shape her future. Research shows that girls who finish high school can make twice as much as their peers and ladies who finish college can make three times as much. In a country, where 44% of girls don't finish high school, the Kibera Girls Soccer Academy is filling a tremendous need for girls and their families in Kenya. Unlike the USA, public high school isn’t free in Kenya. Many families can’t afford to pay for the high school tuition, uniforms, books, school supplies and other fees for their children, so boys often get preferential treatment leaving the girls behind. Many girls become teen brides and teen mothers depending on men to support them. Research shows that girls who complete high school earn more, marry later and have less children. That’s why KGSA’s mission is so important! KGSA educates 130+ girls a year giving girls the opportunity to shape their future and break the cycle of poverty. We are a proud partner of the Kibera Girls Soccer Academy and hope others will join us in supporting this very important school in Kenya in 2023. #EducateHer4Life

It’s been a long three weeks, but Aisha finished her Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education exams! She and her senior classmates have ended their high school journey at the Kibera Girls Soccer Academy. They will spend the holidays with their families eagerly waiting to hear their exam results sometime in January. All of these beautiful, bright and talented girls dream of attending university. Soccer is in KGSA’s name, so of course they’re watching the World Cup! Despite cheering for different teams, the girls and teachers are all celebrating Morocco - the first African nation EVER to qualify for the World Cup semifinals. As the seniors finish their second week of final exams, they look forward to taking a break from studying and watching the World Cup finals this weekend. #EducateHer4Life

The external finishing is completed as well as the interior and we wanted to show here the work in progress. Skilled workers have commenced construction of the perimeter fencing and staircase to access the library. Before this moment, it was difficult for pupils to access the library because of the bad state of the library due to erosion that washed away the stairs. #ThankYouWishWallFoundation

Aisha and two of her sisters are seniors at KGSA! These three beautiful, bright young ladies study together and encourage each other to do their best. Today is the 10th annual International Day of the Girl. We celebrate Aisha and the other 135 girls studying at KGSA and the 370 girls who have graduated through the years. When we invest in girls, we transform their lives and enable them to uplift everyone and everything around them breaking the cycle of poverty for themselves, their families and their communities.
